Gramafin

Gramafin is a free personal finance app for Pakistan, and I build and run it on my own. Expenses, income, budgets, bank accounts, credit cards, PSX holdings and mutual funds all live in one place, in PKR, and add up to one honest net worth number.

I was tracking my own money across a spreadsheet, three bank apps and memory. Every tool that did this properly assumed an American bank and a US dollar balance, so I built the Pakistani version and put it online for anyone else in the same spot.

What it does

The parts of a personal balance sheet that people here actually keep, rather than the ones a US budgeting app assumes.

Net worth in one number

Bank accounts, cash, credit cards, loans and investments roll up into a single figure, with monthly snapshots and a trailing twelve month trend.

Expenses with receipts

Log spending by category and account, attach a photo of the receipt, then filter by month or category and export to CSV or PDF.

Income and budgets

One-off and recurring income with Pakistan-specific categories, reported on a July to June fiscal year, against per-category monthly budget limits.

PSX and mutual funds

Holdings priced off live PSX quotes, and Pakistani mutual funds valued on daily MUFAP NAVs from my own funds API.

Credit cards

Balances, due dates and minimum payments, with reminders before a card is due and payoff from any linked account.

Wealth statement

A monthly PDF snapshot of net worth, accounts, investments and activity, downloadable or sent to your inbox.

Where the fund data comes from

Valuing a mutual fund holding needs a daily NAV, and MUFAP publishes those without an API to read them with. That gap turned into a second project: a scraper and free API that now feeds Gramafin and anyone else who needs the numbers.

On the phone

There is a companion mobile app for the money that moves between people rather than through a bank. It keeps an owe and owed ledger per person, adds friends by QR code and runs committees, the kameti that half the country saves through, with contribution rounds and a payout order. It stores everything on the device.

Questions

What is Gramafin?

Gramafin is a free personal finance and wealth tracking app built for Pakistan. It puts expenses, income, budgets, bank accounts, credit cards, PSX stocks and mutual funds in one place, in PKR, and turns them into a single net worth number.

Who built Gramafin?

I did. I'm Saad Salman, a fintech product manager based in Lahore who works on card issuing and payments. Gramafin is a solo project I build and run outside my day job, and I write about it as I go.

Is Gramafin free, and does it link to my bank?

It is free, and no bank linking is required. You add accounts and balances yourself, which means Gramafin works with any Pakistani bank without waiting on an open banking rail that does not exist yet. Nothing is sold to third parties.

Can I use Gramafin with Claude?

Yes. Gramafin runs its own OAuth and MCP server, so you can connect your account to Claude or another MCP client and add an expense, check net worth or query accounts from inside a chat.

Gramafin is a personal finance tracker, not financial advice, and not a bank.
